Statutory interpretation is the branch of law governing the determination by the courts of the legal meaning and effect of legislation. In this subject the concepts, interpretative criteria and techniques of the common law of interpretation, together with federal and state interpretation legislation, are examined in a systematic and critical way. The subject also develops knowledege of legislative drafting and skills in legal research and writing legal opinions.
