Subject outline
This subject offers students an introduction to the historical contexts and form of gothic literature. Beginning with the key 18th century novels of Lewis and Radcliffe and ending with Alan Ball's TV series, True Blood, the subject focuses particular attention on the way in which key elements and conventions of the gothic are developed and transformed over the history of the genre. Students will study key works of gothic fiction alongside of their literary, televisual and filmatic, "children."
