Subject outline

In this subject students are provided with a firm grounding in the theory and practical knowledge required for teaching English language, literature and literacy. The focus is on student skill development in the key areas of teaching reading and writing in a differentiated classroom, with particular emphasis on literacy teaching and learning in a range of modes and for a range of audiences. The subject is structured around the key elements of teaching reading and writing to beginning learners and to older students who may be experiencing difficulties in literacy, to enable teachers to make links between theoretical contexts and practical applications. A key element will be the development of the skills necessary to identify and develop appropriate and inclusive reading and writing strategies for all students. ICT skills associated with accessing, processing and communicating in a blended learning environment are embedded within the course and utilised in assessment tasks.
