BIOPHARMACEUTICS
CHE3BPH
2017
Credit points: 15
Subject outline
Drugs are used in a wide range of dosage forms and pharmacists need to understand the design and rationale behind available dosage forms. Also, in order to properly advise patients on the use of drugs it is necessary to understand the mechanisms by which the drugs are absorbed and interact in the body. Fundamental principles of biopharmaceutics are discussed with emphasis on the qualitative and quantitative description of factors which influence drug disposition. Drugs are used in a wide range of dosage forms and pharmacists need to understand the design and rationale behind these available dosage forms. We will investigate different types of formulation and how the ingredients in a formulation together with method of manufacture, can influence the bioavailability of a drug within the body.
