Asia is the largest of the continents, home to over half the world's population, and historically the birthplace of some of the world's first civilisations, of global religions, and multiple independent centres of plant and animal domestication. Adopting a thematic approach, this subject presents a comparative overview of the archaeologies of several different regions of Asia, with specific focus upon China, the Indian subcontinent and southeast Asia. Core themes examined include; The first Asians; arrival of modern humans; The emergences of farming; The early civilisations of Asia; Climate change & adaptation; The second urbanisms; Long-distance trade (the Silk Roads and maritime trade); Buddhist and Hindu archaeologies; Early written traditions within the archaeological study of Asia;The politics of heritage in Asia.
