Subject outline
Professional Communication - Global and Specialist will cover the field of global cultural and communication theory along with an applied research component on specialist/emergency communication. Topics covered will include: global media flows and the north/south imbalance; cultural hybridisation and local/global tensions; transational media and disaporic audiences; social media as global communication; network journalism and international law and global communication. The applied research component on specialist/emergency communication will enable students to focus an area of their choice: public service communication; emergency communication; or environmental communication, developing research skills for either future academic study, or practical application in communication based careers.
