Subject outline
In this third placement subject students will complete a further 250 hours of clinical work under the supervision of an onsite clinical supervisor at a mental health or other health care setting in order to meet the requirements for registration with the Australian and New Zealand Arts Therapy Association (ANZATA). Students will be expected to extend their therapeutic work, where possible, with longer term clients and to be engaged in more advanced level clinical work.

01. Extend and develop therapeutic relationship skills using interpersonal and art therapy forms of communication.
- Activities:
- Recognise and analyse transference and countertransference issues in the therapeutic relationship.
02. Critique basic theoretical approaches to art therapy and their application in work with different clients.
- Activities:
- Identify where structured and unstructured approaches are appropriate and document in treatment planning accordingly.
03. Articulate clinical reasoning within the context of other professional relationships.
- Activities:
- Initiate productive working relationships with colleagues from interdisciplinary team to communicate clinical work.
04. Review and analyse images with clients for meaning and associations.
- Activities:
- Identify symbolic and other key visual elements in client art work for entry in client notes.
05. Discern and articulate how cultural diversity affects the therapeutic process.
- Activities:
- Ability to analyse how cultural and religious issues of actual clients in placement impact on their experience of health.
06. Perform systematic case note writing including assessment, interventions and treatment planning and which communicate to clinicians from other disciplines.

- Clear and concise accounts of client case notes entered into files.
