Subject outline

In this subject students explore the impact of screen and sound texts on film spectators, television viewers, and online browsers. You will draw on key concepts from spectatorship theory to explore identification, empathy, affect, ethics and embodiment in different screen and sound environments. You will undertake close analysis and an individual essay or small-group creative project to develop conceptual thinking, research and presentation skills. This subjectaddresses La Trobe's Global Citizenship Essential. Global Citizenship entailsdeep appreciation of how we live in an interconnected world, being able torecognize the global context of concepts, act across cultures and boundaries,and work with diverse communities now and in the future.
