This subject explores the strategic and operational issues involved in managing staff in the workplace. It examines the challenges facing human resource managers in contemporary Australian organisations and seeks to develop an understanding of human resource management practices in our continually changing social, economic, industrial relations and organisational environments. This subject will explore the reasons underpinning the increasing recognition of human resource management (HRM) within organisations as well as the field's underlying purposes.Throughout this subject an emphasis is placed on a strategic approach to HRM in addition to the functional and operational aspects.
