Subject outline
This subject involves a residential one week intensive block (10-15 January) on-site in Shepparton. Students are required to attend a compulsory introductory lecture day held at Shepparton (11 December 2015, with video hookup to all campuses). Students will be introduced to a wide range of Aboriginal topics that relate to Shepparton and surrounding areas. Teaching will be delivered by some of La Trobe University's leading academics in Aboriginal studies, who will cover topics in history, archaeology, sociology, anthropology and politics. Students will gain an understanding of historical and contemporary Aboriginal society and culture and will be able to engage with diverse academic literature. In addition, students will have "On Country" experience, including travel to the Barmah Forest to meet and hear from representatives of the local Aboriginal community. Students should contact the subject co-ordinator to discuss enrolment and costs of accommodation and transport.
