PHOTOGRAPHY: DIRECTORIAL MODE 1
VPA3DM1
2015
Credit points: 30
Subject outline
This is the first of two subjects that investigate the Directorial Mode of still photography. Deliberately staged scenarios that may project an internal, poetic reality invite consideration of the fictional nature of the photographic image and the activation of tension between a constructed truth and and the optically literal image that expresses it. Theoretical research is undertaken to contextualise contemporary practice in a rich history that dates back to the mid-19th century. Practical assignment work and folio production are supported in digital, analogue and hybrid modes. Students are encouraged to participate in regular group gallery visits to Melbourne. A DSLR camera is required. This subject is a pre-requisite for VPA3DM2.
