VPA2CT2
2015
Credit points: 15
Subject outline
Cultural & Theoretical Studies 2 positions studio practice within a critical and theoretical context of visual art and associated creative practices. Building on existing knowledge of and skills in art history, as well as related cultural, theoretical and philosophical writing and artists' writing, from Semester 1, students are expected to articulate relationships between critical and contextual areas and their own studio practice. This subject reinforces students' capacities to undertake academic scholarly research, and how to apply these approaches to the study of fine arts. This subject is focussed on refining skills, knowledge and capabilities in analysis, evaluation and communication (reading, writing, discussing). This focus consolidates understanding and processing of complex ideas associated with theoretical positions relating to fine arts practice to enable students to conduct a research-led investigation in their art practice.
