Subject outline

In this subject students build further on their understanding of the nature of social policy and the impact of the policy context on social work practice. The subject aims to develop students' knowledge of the key concepts used to understand the nature of social policies and theoretical frameworks for policy analysis. It also aims to develop skills in the application of policy analysis frameworks so that underpinning values and principles can be identified and policy evaluated against core social work values. It will explore the institutional and other diverse factors that shape social policies and the processes by which policy is developed and implemented. Students will develop the skills necessary to become beginning policy practitioners who can interpret policy, use research, practice knowledge and experience to identify issues and contribute to processes of policy development and change.
