Subject outline
In this subject, students will undertake a supervised fieldwork practicum which will provide opportunities to integrate theoretical knowledge with practice and develop competencies to the standard required by AASW. Students are placed in a range of human service organisations to demonstrate their knowledge and skills and further develop their practice knowledge. SWP3FEA is the first and SWP4FEB the second of two fieldwork placements to be undertaken by students under the supervision of a qualified social worker with the liaison support of an academic staff member. Each placement period is 14 weeks full time as required by the AASW and is normally taken at the end of second semester (September to December) each year. As part of the practicum, students will be required to attend 6-hours of preparatory seminars (held in both first and second semester)and 10-hours of seminars throughout the practicum to integrate theory with the practicum experience.
