Subject outline

In this subject students will complete the Australian Physiotherapy Level 3 Sports Physiotherapy course. This 50 hour course incorporates theoretical and practical elements of diagnosis and management of sport injuries. It is the applicant's responsibility to gain a place on the APA course, which has minimum sports physiotherapy criteria. The School of Physiotherapy has no involvement in selection of applicants into the APA course and it is the student's responsibility to successfully apply and be accepted on the Level 3 APA Sports Physiotherapy course.

02. Understand and Appreciate the role of the Sports physiotherapist and the other members of the elite Sports Medicine Team

03. Recognise the common patterns of sports injury presentation and the outlying cases and be able to adapt management.

04. Develop a management and rehabilitation plan for sports injuries which incorporates principles of motor learning, physical strength and conditioning, endurance training, specific exercise prescription and manual therapy with a sound evidence base.
