Subject outline

In this unit students are introduced to the principles and practice of using electrophysical agents (EPAs) in physiotherapy treatment and diagnosis. The syllabus covers therapeutic heat and cold, electrical stimulation, myoelectric biofeedback and real-time ultrasound. The focus is on safe, research-based, clinically effective practice. Topics are considered in terms of their physiological effects; indications, precautions and contraindications for use; dosage; principles and techniques of application; clinical effectiveness; and equipment management.
