Subject outline

In this unit students will prepare for their first clinical experience. The theory component provides a framework to explore patients' experiences within the healthcare system. The focus is on empathetic, safe and ethical practice. The practical component covers manual handling, mobility aids, record writing and universal precautions and immediately precedes the clinical experience. The clinical experience allows students to observe health care delivery in a variety of work place settings, to apply the knowledge and skills taught in this and other first year subjects to client management, and to develop interpersonal skills and professional behaviours and attitudes.
