Subject outline

This subject is an introduction to the historical, political, social and cultural realities of the Portuguese-speaking world through the study of representative prose works and films from Portugal, Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde and Timor-Leste. It focuses on topics such as the construction of national identity in literature, history and film, and the role historical memory plays in it. Particular attention is paid to the way in which the newly independent Portuguese-speaking countries represent their changed reality in their literature.
