Subject outline
In this subject students are required to develop a topic for research. This is achieved by writing a 1,500-word research proposal read by the subject convenor and one other Faculty member, due in April. The proposal needs to contain a brief survey of research, gaps that need attention and a way of dealing with one of them. It must also contain a timetable for completion of the project, a timetable for ethics approval, and a list of major tasks to be completed. A 4,000-word literature review is required at the end of July, but requiring expansion to a 15,000-word chapter once a student is approved to complete the doctoral degree.
