Subject outline

Students commence a project that takes the equivalent of six months of continuous work under the supervision of a member of staff. The project is completed and written up as a thesis when the student completes the unit PHY5THB. All students are required to present a seminar outlining the proposed project at a time to be determined by the physics postgraduate coordinator. A list of prospective thesis topics and supervisors is available from the Department of Physics postgraduate co-ordinator.

Prerequisites Current enrolment in the M.Sci.Phys.Sci. program and an invitation to join the research stream. Students who achieve an average of 65% in all their subjects in the first year of the course and who demonstrate an aptitude for research and experimentation may be invited to join the research stream.

02. Communicate effectively the key concepts, techniques, and research outcomes associated research project in an appropriate scientific manner.

Activities:
Prepare and deliver an individual audio visual presentation of approximately 15 minutes in duration before an audience of scientists working in a relevant discipline, summarising the research project. Answer questions about the research project in a professional manner.
