Subject outline
In this subject students will develop skills to assess and manage a patient with low vision. Students will extend knowledge gained from ophthalmic pathology subjects and use an enquiry-based learning program to explore the main causes of vision impairment, the psychosocial impact of vision loss and the principles of low vision rehabilitation. Knowledge about the role of the orthoptist in a multidisciplinary low vision team will also be gained. Students will study various techniques for managing low vision patients including prescribing optical and non-optical devices. This subject will equip students to progress to the Orthoptic Clinical Practice subjects.
