Subject outline

In this subject students are provided with the opportunity to gain essential knowledge and skills used to care for people suffering from skin ulceration and lesions. Students will study related wound physiology, psychological considerations, social impacts and contemporary management practices, for this client cohort. Case studies drawn from patients suffering from pressure, venous, arterial and neuropathic ulcers, squamous cell carcinoma and chest wall tumours are used as a foundation for the subject content. Specific emphasis is placed on correcting/preventing underlying aetiologies, controlling exudate, minimising bio-burden, quality of life issues and social support networks available to clients suffering from long-term ulceration.

06. Design and deliver a management plan for a complex patient suffering from a given ulceration including physical, psychological and social elements.
