Subject outline

Mental health nurses are required to undertake comprehensive assessment as the basis for care planning, implementation and evaluation. This unit will take a lifespan approach and introduce the concepts of assessment using a biopsychosocial model. Emphasis will be placed on early detection of mental health symptoms and on the development of skills to work collaboratively with consumers, carers and other health providers to develop a comprehensive care plan.
