MID3CPR

2015

Credit points: 15

Subject outline

In this subject students will build on the foundation knowledge and skills of the care of women experiencing a normal pregnancy. Students will be assisted to recognise and manage situations that compromise the normal pregnancy process and that have the potential to be harmful to the woman and the fetus/baby. Pre-existing conditions which may complicate pregnancy as well as women who present with a disorder specific to pregnancy will be examined. Studies incorporate the provision of safe competent care during pregnancy whilst supporting the woman's choices and being an advocate for the woman. The scope of practice of the midwife in respect to consultation and referral to members of the multidisciplinary team will be explored.
