Subject outline

Its now time to put the knowledge and skills you have acquired through the Hallmark Program into action! In this subject you will work with a team to conduct the project you developed in Research by Design (HMD2RBD). This is an opportunity for you to develop your research and leadership skills. You will develop a communications plan for the implementation phase of the project; finalise your research design and ensure that it is consistent with relevant regulatory frameworks; collect, analyse and interpret data and communicate findings according to project milestones in a variety of forms. As part of your transformation into a real researcher you will be introduced to the challenges of applying fo rfunding including tips and tricks for preparing grant applications.

Graduate capabilities & intended learning outcomes

01. Plan and manage a research project that is consistent with relevant regulatory frameworks (e.g. human ethics)

Activities:
Students will conduct the undergraduate research projects planned in the previous semester. To implement the projects studnts will need to complete a communications plan and set milestone dates. They will also need to complete a human ethics application for the data collection phase of the project.

02. Employ effective teamwork to conduct a research project under limited supervision

Activities:
Students will work in groups to complete their research projects.

03. Find, collect and analyse data for a research project

Activities:
Each research project will include a data colleciton phase. Example techinques include surveys, focus groups and obsevrational studies.

04. Formulate and disseminate group research to an academic audience in a short oral presentation and poster

Activities:
Students will present an 'elevator pitch' aimed at advertising therir research projects at La Trobe University. They will laso design and print a poster presenting preliminary results from their research project.

05. Meet project milestones and provide a detailed progress report

Activities:
Students will set milestone targets for their research projects and then report on how well they met the targets and on the progress and results from their research.

06. Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills

Activities:
Present work in a variety of formats including ethics form, milestone report, poster and oral presentation.
