Subject outline
In this subject students will be introduced to: the types and uses of personal and aggregate health data and information; and systems for capturing health information on individual patients and clients. The applications of clinical recording methodologies and standards are introduced. The uses of aggregate data are studied in relation to: information systems; health information flow; and health data quality and integrity. The applications of health data are investigated, with particular emphases on the evaluation of patient care, and on the planning, funding and monitoring of health service provision. Students will develop an understanding of contemporary issues and challenges in health information management and the roles of Health Information Managers in the collection, management, analysis and transfer of health information.

04. Describe the factors influencing health information recording, reporting and use.

06. Use academic and health industry resources to undertake an enquiry which involves working with others to critically examine topics, and the communication of analysed inforamtion.
- Activities:
- Guided readings, discussion, and the HIM LibGuide will assist students to identify key sources of information relevant to the professional field. Students will be required to identify suitable references for their individual assignment, and will receive formative feeback prior to submission of the task for assessment. Students will work in teams to complete workshop activities and a team assignment.
