HUMAN BIOSCIENCES B
HBS1HBB
2015
Credit points: 15
Subject outline
In this subject, students will continue with the study of anatomy & physiology and apply the concepts of human structure and function introduced in HBS1HBA, to the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. Anatomical principles and terminology will be applied to relevant body systems and the concept of integrated function of multiple systems in one body region will be introduced. Students will be taught via a blended on-line and face-to-face approach.

Graduate capabilities & intended learning outcomes
01. Apply relevant anatomical principles to describe the structure and function of selected body systems.
- Activities:
- Blended learning activities related to the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. (e.g. Anatomy TV and MasteringA&P activities identifying the major bones of the body or specific muscles.) Workshops 1-8 using models and team discussion to reinforce blended learning activities (e.g. use of skeleton to find specific bones, use of models to identify specific muscles).
02. Apply relevant anatomical principles to integrate structure and function of body systems within an anatomical region.
- Activities:
- Blended learning acitivities related to the structures of the trunk (e.g. Anatomy TV and Mastering A&P activities relating to discovering the function of the muscles of the back, or the organs of the abdominal cavitiy and their relationships to each other). Workshops 9-12 using models, cadaver material and surface anatomy to relate the blended learning activities to the actual position of muscles, bones and organs of the trunk.
03. Use appropriate skills to achieve significant outcomes in a human bioscience enquiry.
- Activities:
- Blended learning activities and workshops are based around 3 major enquiries. Students work in teams to complete workshop activities and have team-based assessment tasks to complete which develop their skills in interpretation and reporting of outcomes of their enquiry.
