Subject outline

In this subject, students undertake a period of 20 days teaching within Years P(F)-4 in Australian schools under the supervision of a qualified teacher. They engage in self-evaluation, reflection, formal and informal discussion and consultation regarding teaching practice and associated skills. Students are expected to produce lesson-plans, which reflect their ability to articulate clear learning intentions, success criteria, procedural steps, reflection of success criteria by the students and appropriate assessment procedures involved in evaluating student learning. Lesson plans should be provided to mentor teachers prior to lessons and other written work and documentation relevant to lessons should be kept as a record of teaching. All students are required to participate in pre-placement learning activities and post-placement debriefing activities. Students must obtain a Working With Children clearance before embarking on teaching practice in Victoria. For placements outside Victoria, local requirements apply.
