Subject outline
This subject begins with a discussion of deontological and utilitarian ethics and of normative economics. These concepts are applied to five important issues: whether polluting industries should be relocated to poor countries; the economics of Aboriginal land rights; income redistribution and the welfare state; foreign aid and the duty to donate; and the ethics of global warming. We conclude with some reflections on ethical theories and normative economics in the light of these issues.
