INTRODUCTION TO QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS

ECO2IQA

2015

Credit points: 15

Subject outline

This subject links mathematical tools and their applications in economics, finance and business. Students will learn about sets, number systems, functions, linear equations, non-linear equations, linear algebra, the mathematics of finance, univariate differential calculus, multivariate differential calculus, unconstrained optimisation and equality-constrained optimisation. Each of these topics will be illustrated using applications from economics, finance and business studies. This subject is intended for students who have studied some mathematics at VCE (or equivalent) and are confident in applying that mathematics. Students who do not meet this criteria should enrol in ECO1EME prior to enrolling in this subject.
