WATER NETWORK DESIGN
CIV4WND
2015
Credit points: 15
Subject outline
This subject discusses the principles of water network design. It introduces the basic planning elements of water network distribution systems such as designing demands, pressures, velocities and pipe materials. Topics covered in this subject include: principles of water network design; energy equation for pipe flow; static fluid; mass conservation; single and multiple pipe networks; water flow and losses in networks; network design; hydrostatic pressure issues, flow speed limits; dissipation of potential energy; designing for peak demands; water hammer and air pockets in the network. Studying these topics, student will develop an in depth understanding and practical knowledge needed for the planning, designing, constructing and maintaining of water network and distributions. Skills to apply the principles that underpin the design of water networks in practical situations and to determine the critical design data for the design of single pipe and multiple pipe networks will bedeveloped
