DESIGN OF CONCRETE STRUCTURES 1
CIV3DC1
2015
Credit points: 15
Subject outline
In this subject students will learn the design principles of reinforced concrete structures and application of principles to design concrete structures. Topics covered include: properties of concrete materials; analysis of concrete structures; design of reinforced concrete beams; beam deflections; flexural and non-flexural behaviour of beams; design of singley and doubley reinforced beams; analysis and design of reinforced concrete slabs and floor systems; design of reinforced concrete columns and structural walls and durability and fire resistance of concrete structures in accordance with AS3600. Students will develop an in depth understanding of the design principles and behaviour of concrete structures for civil engineering applications. Skills to analyse structures using a number of methods and to solve related structural problems in the design concrete structures for durability and fire resistance in compliance with Australian standards and codes will be developed.
