Subject outline
Understandings of body and mind define human existence. But anthropologists are interested in more than just mortality and eternity, they also look at how mental and bodily practices and understandings both reflect and reinforce cultures. In this subject we look at diverse practices such as classical dance and martial arts fighting as well as genital cutting to understand how societies create power, define sex and gender, reproduce culture, and 'grow' people up.
