INTRODUCTION TO PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE
SWP2IPP
2014
Credit points: 15
Subject outline
In this subject the development of generic social work as a profession is addressed; where social workers are located and how they practice. The subject also examines what social workers need to know by introducing students to the theoretical and value base of social work practice. There is an emphasis on the systems approach as a useful theoretical foundation for defining a beginning approach to practice that addresses the person and their environment and the complex nature of social problems that social workers confront. Students will be encouraged to explore the contested nature of social work as part of their ongoing professional development.
