Subject outline
The aim of this subject is to develop a comprehensive understanding on the relevance of spatial planning at regional scales to promote environmental , social and economic development. This subject will require planning studio work which will illustrate planning as a process of broader policy framing with a special concern on 'space' and statutory requirements. It will introduce major implementation tools for planning e.g. zoning regulations. The studio exercise promotes innovative thinking towards planning issues and requires participating to work as an effective team member in a planning team. Students will complete a case study of a real life planning process and create a plan for a regional area. Topics covered include planning formulation, delineation of an environmental planning region/growth area, problem framing, analysis, visioning, strategy formulation, principles and context of land use planning, and planning statutes.
