Subject outline
In this subject students focus on the work place in land use planning and environmental management. Students examine the operation of processes and decision making used in actual disputes and decision making processes including GIS techniques. Attention is given to developing inclusive approaches to community involvement and consultation, resolving competing land uses and establishing credible and transparent procedures. Ethical behaviour in the work place and how it can be delivered is examined as is the role of the planner as part of an organisation delivering services to the public, meeting the requirements of legal stakeholders and the community, and maintaining the principle of net community benefit. The content, role and capacity of professional codes of conduct for planners is examined in the context of meeting procedural requirements, the imperatives of organisational systems and decision making processes that operate within bureaucracies and representative governments.
