Subject outline

In this subject, students are introduced to human resources management (HRM) in the health sector. In particular, it situates the function of human resource management inside a broader perspective of management theory and practice. The responsibilities of HRM are identified and discussed, including recruitment and selection, equal opportunity in employment, training and development, performance appraisal, and occupational health and safety. Specific skills pertaining to the management of people are examined. The subject also includes an introduction to industrial relations in Australia and the changing nature of industrial relations in the health industry.
