Subject outline

In this subject you will examine the illness experiences of people diagnosed with a chronic illness. Specifically, you will recognise the language of chronic illness and take account of individual's and family's personal meanings of health, illness and coping with chronic illness. Concepts such as hope, loss and powerlessness, as they are experienced by the person and family, are explored. You will also critically explore the role health professionals play in shaping the patient experience.
