COMMUNITY AND HISTORY: CREATING STORIES OF PEOPLE AND PLACE
HIS2CHA
2014
Credit points: 15
Subject outline
In this subject, students examine the links between communities and their histories, local environments and global, national and state histories. What different stories of people and place have been told in community histories? Whose memories and stories are often included/excluded in local histories/museums? How have community histories been contested? How could they be transformed? Why is history important to sustainable communities? How are digital technologies changing community history? Through undertaking a community history project on a theme of their choice, students will gain practical experience of research and in presenting history in engaging and accessible ways within their own communities.
