MYTH, LEGEND AND HISTORY
HIS1MLH
2014
Credit points: 15
Subject outline
In this subject we study some well-known stories from Ancient Greece and medieval Britain. We consider the evidence for their origins in oral and written texts, poetry and prose, material objects, buildings and artworks, and we trace their endurance in western European culture. We examine the power of myth and legend in historical story-telling as we trace how the understanding, of what history is, has developed and changed. We explore King of Arthur and Robin Hood how links are made between stories from the past, and the writing of history today.
