HEALTH CLASSIFICATION AND CLINICAL CODING C
HIM5CCC
2014
Credit points: 15
Subject outline
This subject has two foci: (i) practical clinical coding; and (ii) the health classification-financial relationship, including co-payments, the applications of weighted inlier-equivalent separations (WIES) and other casemix-based measures, and related clinical coding-funding dependencies. Students further develop practical skills in intermediate-level clinical coding using the Commonwealth of Australia's International Classification of Diseases, 10th edition, Australian Modification (ICD-10-AM) which is based on the World Health Organization's International Classification of Diseases classification system. They are introduced to more complex applications of the Australian Coding Standards and to the Victorian Additions to the Standards, for selected conditions.
