Subject outline

In this subject students develop a working knowledge of health data collection and reporting systems, and the relationships between these and health service financing. Case studies are used to understand these concepts and the uses of the data including the analysis of morbidity, mortality, clinical outcome, productivity and service utilisation data. Students develop an understanding of the policy and funding frameworks for public and private health services and the supporting clinical costing and modelling methods. Practical skills are gained in the reporting of administrative and clinical data and the role of the Health Information Manager within these arrangements.
