Subject outline
In this subject students learn to identify the characteristics of phonology, morphology, syntax and lexicon which distinguish informal, colloquial and non-standard varieties of Modern Greek from the formal standard language. Differences between spoken and written forms, informal and formal style/registers, and regional/social dialects are studied and practised with specific reference to Modern Greek.
