Subject outline
The focus of this subject is the student's transition from being a pre-service teacher to a graduate teacher. The subject is organised around themes of essential professional knowledge embodied in the Professional Standards for teachers current in the various Australian States and Territories with a particular focus on Victoria. Topics examined include schools as institutional work sites; school level planning; teacher recruitment practices; performance management; industrial environment; public sector and legislative requirements; strategies for involving, and working effectively, sensitively and confidentially with parents/carers; employment conditions, career planning; mentoring, induction and the development of supportive networks.
