Subject outline

In this workshop-based subject we explore some performance forms and ideas from Asian, European and American traditions that have been influential in recent Australian theatre and performance practice. Three topics are drawn into focus for four weeks each. These are traditional and modern Asian theatre and performance forms (India, China, Japan, Indonesia); paratheatrical forms (music, physical and object theatre); contemporary practitioners of influence (Eugenio Barba, Augusto Boal, Ann Bogart, Robert Wilson, Jenny Kemp). In any given year, one example from each topic is chosen for detailed examination.
