COMPARATIVE AND HISTORICAL STUDY OF HEALTH SYSTEMS
CPH5CHS
2014
Credit points: 15
Subject outline
In this unit, China Health Program students learn about policy making for public health. The comparative and historical study of health systems underpins the technical languages in which public health policy is analysed and developed. Exploration of key episodes in health development in different countries contributes to deep judgement in public health policy making. This unit explores and compares health systems in different countries including historical and contemporary contexts. It focuses on challenges, options and debates in relation to health care reform (including public health). The study program includes key health policy topics such as: health care financing and health insurance; primary health care and community health; health promotion and pharmaceuticals policy. We explore themes and issues in health sector reform world wide, including links with economic reform. This unit is only taught in Bilingual for China Health Program students.
