Subject outline

In this subject students will analyse issues that are prominent in contemporary Aboriginal affairs in the light of historical experience and knowledge. How has State and Federal Government interactions with Aboriginal people changed over time? How have acts of government impacted upon Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities' interactions at the local level? Life writing, oral history and documentary sources will expose students to Indigenous perspectives and Indigenous experience of education, health, housing, justice and employment in South-eastern Australia, with particular emphasis upon rural and regional communities. A one-day mini conference will be held on each campus, with local Aboriginal community members speaking on relevant topics.
