Deb Pidd is a PhD candidate and midwife with extensive experience in antenatal care, clinical education and childbirth education. Deb completed a BA at La Trobe University, majoring in Sociology followed some years later with a Master of Midwifery, also at La Trobe. Her practice and research interests are in woman-centred care, education and clinical leadership. The aim of Deb’s research is to improve the subsequent pregnancy and birth/maternity care experience of women who have experienced a prior psychologically traumatic birth by enhancing woman-centred care.
In this lunchtime seminar, Deb will speak about the first phase of her PhD, focusing on the modified Delphi Study component, where 18 experts agreed by consensus over four rounds, factors likely to improve women’s experience in their subsequent pregnancy following a prior psychological traumatic birth/maternity care experience. A simple screening tool for identifying women with a history of a psychologically traumatic birth and or a fear of birth in their subsequent pregnancy and an individualised maternity care planning guide informed by eleven elements of care identified as important to enhance woman centred care, were designed for further review as a proof of concept in a clinical setting.
The Judith Lumley Centre lunchtime seminars are free and open to all. Held on the first Wednesday of every month from February to December. These seminars showcase the work of national and international academics/researchers.
