About the La Trobe Business School
The La Trobe Business School is enhancing learning through education and research that is future-focused, applied, innovative and responsible.
Our goal is to become one of Australia’s pre-eminent business schools as measured by our innovative courses, the success of our graduates, the positive social impact of our research and the strength of our partnerships.
Through our worldwide network of partnerships and collaborations, we are uniquely positioned to deliver innovative solutions, to act on opportunities, to educate the next generation of ethical business leaders and produce impactful research that benefits business and society.
The La Trobe Business School has two departments – the Department of Accounting, Data Analytics, Economics and Finance and the Department of Management and Marketing – that enable us to offer education programs in Management, Supply Chain and Logistics Management, Marketing, Sport and Tourism Management, Human Resource Management, International Business, Accounting, Business Analytics, Economics and Finance.
Our students have outstanding placement opportunities and access to industry projects that expose them to a range of business environments. We are proud that our teaching is informed by our research and industry engagement, which focuses on current and emerging issues of global significance. We are passionate about delivering an outstanding learning experience to our students.
Enhanced business learning
To succeed in today’s dynamic world, our graduates must be future-focused, agile, responsible and innovative.
So must we. The rise of freelancing and portfolio careers, personal brands, peer-to-peer and gig economies, and the ubiquity of technology are constantly shaping and re-shaping our educational offerings.
Our curriculum responds to the needs of our students, and their career values and aspirations. We prioritise applied and authentic experiences to connect them with business, government and the community.
Our Course Advisory Committees provide the School with advice on the future direction and development of our courses, potential market demand for new and revised courses, and support for our offerings with industry engagement.
Our students practice their skills in project-based learning environments, including our Finance Trading Room, where they learn with live market data. Outside the classroom, our comprehensive industry engagement and work placement programs give students insight into the contemporary opportunities and challenges facing business today.
Our flexible approach allows students, where possible, to engage in learning opportunities across a range of disciplines, at a time and place of their choosing.
Accreditations
Only five per cent of business schools in the world have earned accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the highest standard of achievement for business schools worldwide.
We’re one of them.
AACSB accreditation means that we have the resources, credentials and commitment to prepare students to succeed in a range of fields including Accounting, Finance, Business and Commerce. And when they’ve finished studying, AACSB accreditation means that our students graduate with qualifications that are internationally recognised.
Our programs are also recognised by local and international quality assurance and accreditation agencies including:
- Australian Computer Society
- Australian Human Resources Institute
- Australian Marketing Institute
- Certified Practising Accountants Australia
- Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand
- European Foundation for Management Development.
United Nations signatory
The United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) was founded in 2007. The La Trobe Business School became a signatory to PRME in 2008, joining leading business schools committed to implementing their principles: purpose, values, method, research, partnership and dialogue.
Our aim as a PRME signatory is to educate our students to become responsible leaders who can balance the demands of business with economic, social and environmental sustainability.
We do this by embedding principles of sustainability, ethics and responsibility across our curriculum, research and partnerships.
Research for a new world
Our researchers work with industry, government and the community on projects, reviews and policy that transforms business practice and drives social change.
We want to make a difference – to be responsive to the needs of our stakeholders and communities – and focus attention on solutions that help to transform business thinking and practice.
We seek to understand and solve problems relevant to the communities we serve by collaborating across disciplines, and with industry partners, to provide leadership and practical solutions to the global challenges of our time.
Our graduate researchers are also working with us on our mission to champion business thinking and practice for social impact. Our Masters and PhD programs give candidates the opportunity to conduct high impact projects under the direction of experts in their field.
Our contribution aligns with La Trobe University's research themes: Social change and equity, Healthy people, families and communities, Resilient environments and communities, and Sustainable food and agriculture.
We also support research pillars in the Care Economy Research Institute (focusing on wellbeing and healthcare economics and management) and the La Trobe Institute for Agriculture and Food (focusing on the business of food and agriculture).
