Safety and inclusion in Australia

Australia is known for being a safe country. Year after year, Australia features in the list for most safe countries in the world according to reputable reviewers, index scores and studies – with Melbourne and Sydney featured high on the list for safest cities.

Australia ranks among the best when it comes to safety for international students due to a stable and democratic political system and relatively low crime rates compared to other study and travel destinations in the world.

Major cities like Melbourne and Sydney also boast a very ethnically diverse population, contributing to a welcoming, inclusive and safe environment for international students. With such a diverse population in these two major cities, international students can often find familiar food, cultural events and social groups to help them feel at ease in Australia.

Australia also has a very responsive emergency service, with one free call number on 000 for fire, police or ambulance services to respond to life threatening or emergency situations.

Online safety

At La Trobe, we take all forms of safety seriously - including staying safe online while they are studying with us.

International students have a range of support options available at La Trobe, including IT services to help international students identify common scams, wellbeing and support services for students impacted by a cyber breach or cybercrime, and resources to help students stay safe online, understand the laws and know where to report incidents to.

Living on res is like living at home away from home. I've never felt so comfortable while feeling so safe living in a different country. Plus, my friends are only a stone throw away.
